Do you recommend pregnant women see a chiropractor? Why?

100%! Getting adjusted while pregnant is a different technique than just regular adjustments. You want to find a Webster trained and certified chiropractor. (When trying to find one in your area, you can go to icpa4kids.com)

There are so many benefits to getting adjusted while pregnant. As the baby grows, the pelvis tilts anteriorly causing the muscles in the lower back to shorten and tighten, the hamstrings and gluteal muscles to stretch and weaken developing a deeper curve in the cervical and lumbar region; all of which results in more stress on the lower back and neck. Hello, back and neck pain! Pain of this kind should be the last thing on a woman’s mind while pregnant!

On top of that, a woman’s body undergoes hormonal fluctuations causing ligaments to loosen. Loose ligaments leave the joints less stable. The sacroiliac joints and pubic symphysis become the most vulnerable. Chiropractic care assures these joints remain in the proper position.

Webster is a very safe technique and adjustment that allows the baby to move into the proper position so the mother can experience a less painful and safer delivery for the baby. Reduced pain alleviates stress and anxiety. Women report the benefits of chiropractic care are easier and faster deliveries! (And who doesn't want that?!)

What are the benefits of taking a baby to the chiropractor?

There are so many great benefits to bringing in your baby to see a chiropractor. Those benefits help with:

  • improving latch, which then improves nursing
  • less tension
  • better sleep patterns
  • less digestive issues
  • less flat head or plagiocephaly
  • less reflux or colicky

At what age should parents bring their babies into the chiropractor?

I have parents that bring their baby in at all stages of life! Some as early as a few days to weeks to months. The earlier the better because then I can assess and help with any impedances that are in the way.

Can you explain how chiropractic care for babies is safe?

Many people are apprehensive to take their children to a chiropractor because they think of the “snap, crackle, pop” that most adults experience when they visit a chiropractor. However, the technique and approach that I use with children and infants is very different from that of adults. Our technique is very safe, gentle and is performed with a light touch. It is not a manual adjustment comparable to what adults receive when they visit a chiropractor. Therefore you want to find a pediatric chiropractor that is trained to do so! When trying to find one in your area, you can go to icpa4kids.com.

How often should a baby see a chiropractor?

There isn't a magic number because every baby is 100% different. Some may need more care per week than others. It also depends on what the issues are as well. Those that are colicky or reflux have a different treatment plan then a baby that has torticollis or plagiocephaly. I make treatment plans based on each child I see and what they need.
